Process 

Our termite inspection is comprehensive and covers the interior and exterior parts of a home. This includes inside walls, ventilation, backyard landscaping, soil areas, etc.

Termite Treatment 

If we find termite presence on your property, we will use termiticide foam or sprays to treat the area. We do this before installing a termite barrier and baiting system. At Pro Pest Control Cairns, we use Termidor to treat termites.

Termidor is a slow-acting termiticide that spreads by contact. The chemical uses a unique transfer effect to infect termites. Instead of killing termites immediately, each infected termite becomes a carrier. It then spreads the virus to other termites by contact. Termidor prevents the moulting process and weakens the mandibles to prevent termites from feeding. Termites will continue to pass the virus around throughout the entire colony until the whole nest is eliminated. The whole process takes a few weeks.

Termite Barrier 

A termite barrier is a protective zone we install to repel and kill termites. Pro Pest Control Cairns uses physical and chemical termite barriers as a part of our termite management solutions.

  • Physical barriers 

Physical barriers are sheets, foams, sealants, and capping that we install to physically protect a structure from termite infestation. We use physical barriers during pre-construction or renovation to block possible entryways and keep termites out. Since subterranean termites enter the house mostly through the foundation, we close accessways in advance.

Physical barriers sometimes force termites to reveal themselves. After blocking possible entryways, we deliberately leave an open space where they can enter through. However, they make themselves visible during the process. At this point, we can conveniently spray them with Termidor.

  • Chemical barriers 

Pro Pest Control Cairns uses Termidor as a chemical barrier to protect, repel and kill termites. Termidor spreads by ingestion and contact. Unlike physical barriers, we apply the chemical into the soil or via a reticulation system where it forms a protective zone.

When a termite crosses the zone, it automatically becomes an active carrier of the virus. All termites that come in contact with the treated zone will pass the virus to other healthy termites. The cycle will repeat throughout the colony until all the nests are eliminated.

Termite Baiting Systems 

A termite baiting system is another termite management solution we implement to safely trace and eliminate termites. We load bait stations with cellulose baits and mix them with Termidor. Then, we install the stations in or above the ground throughout your property, and position them along termite paths.
